FISHING is a photography series about capitalism, sustainability, materiality, femininity, and sexualization. It captures the competing paradigms of life in capitalism and life in sustainability. It shows the story of woman as fish, the fish being a source of sustainability. It shows how autonomous femininity is interrupted and uprooted by capitalism; how being caught sexualizes and blocks femininity. Inspired in part by the visual storytelling of the tale of Rama and Sita, FISHING attempts to capture the physio-emotional effects on woman in differing material circumstances: one ready to eat, and another living in leisure. And though woman can reside in either material life, the net is still there.
